The Serpent

Update: May 6th

By the Moon on a Black Knight

Prologue
The party is on the run. To the north is the small town of Kelaware, to the south is the village of West Virginia and a dozen Black Knights hellbent on capturing the party. They've already used mind altering magics to pit allies against each other but Allister has made short work of Cheron of Gaea. The only light is of the pale moon and for some it is of little comfort...

The party needs to think fast before they are overtaken but the knights have other plans. Guido the elven wizard senses the release of powerful energies and before he can warn the party black clad figures are amongst the fleeing heroes. The knights ignore most of the party and focus their assault on Allister and MacDoogle, the bearers of the strange orbs. Allister is upstaged in combat and offers his orb for his life. The knight reverently takes the offered sphere with awe and vanishes. MacDoogle leads his antagonist on a wild chase that leaves the men wearing fullplate exhausted. He hurls taunts and insults as he casually jogs circles around the tired knights. The rest of the party continues their bolt north not really worried about their engaged companions.

More knights teleport into the fray but they go directly for the barbarian. Wisely he deals with the armored men, offering his 'one' orb for their word as knights to never harm him or seek revenge for his insults. The vow on their honor to give him leave as long as they never catch him. With the deal struck he tosses over one of his two orbs and flees toward the party. Some look back forlornly at the treasure delivered up and others look back to be sure they aren't still being attacked. All are stunned by the sudden thunderclap and lightening bolt that strikes between the Black Knights and the orb.

An old man shrouded in pale robes makes short work of the five knights that fall upon him and claims the orb for himself. The still approaching main force of armored men flee with their single prize. Feeling like a reprieve was finally granted, the party approach the old man. He introduces himself as Ragna and claims to have been watching the party for a long time. He is a part of an organization known as The Hands of Fate who directly oppose the destructive machinations of The Eyes of Tomorrow. Chiefly he has been watching the actions of The Black King of Agadeem who has been watching the party intently since they recovered the orbs. He knows not why The Black King or the Eyes want the orbs but he knows that if they want them he'd better step in.

Some find his name familiar and his knowledge of their past intrigues some. Guido knows that the name Ragna was uttered in connection with some of the realm's strongest magic during his days at the academy. All great epics include the name RagDragon the Pale. Feeling like they could trust him, the party spills everything about the strange purple eyed fanatics, the Junon Invasion, and The Crypt of the Lizardman Queen. Intrigued, Ragna offers to take the party to Jericho after he gets a shot of Poon (the wine not the hoochy) and a smoke. The party moved back to West Virginia and while Ragna, Allister and Guido became friendly; Cryler set to recovering Cheron's vision.

A boon from Garl Glittergold is not something asked for lightly. Carapace calls gnomes tricksters for a reason!

Jericho

Prologue
Reprieve from the constant running arrived in the form of RagDragon the Pale. After weeks of constant struggle, fleeing and confusion the party meets a man with the power to give the party some much needed help. The group wishes to reach the capital city of Jericho in hopes of getting an audience with the King. Ragna is more than happy to oblige. Abracadabra...

Ragna snaps his fingers and the party is suddenly no longer in the village square of squalid West Virginia but in the huge backyard of the eccentric spellcaster. In every direction can be seen the tall spires of a sprawling city and to the north is the mountain of King's Crossing and its crowning peak , the Castle of the King. They are greeted at the wizard's backdoor by a small specimen of the Junon species who welcomes the party and his master. Ragna waste no time setting his servant to preparing the guest quarters and inviting the party to have dinner with him. Then he promptly kicks them out of his mansion-like home.

With all of Jericho before them the party splits up. Steel went out in search of a blacksmith that could rework the Full Plate armor he'd found within the crypt. The rest of the party proceeded toward King's Crossing. The crew of adventuring types would have caught the eye of any crossing their path but with the added effect of their various races quite a spectacle was made. Steel found that within Wercheshire only those of noble birth or privilege could possess Fullplate and he began his search for a way to speak with The College of Nobles. His goal; to become permitted to where such armor.

At the base of King's Crossing it becomes obvious that the party's peculiar appearance would be a hurdle that would stop them from seeing The King. MacDoogle is challenged by guards and a fight is narrowly avoided thanks to the interference of Katrina with Sir Rico. Though skeptical of their motives, Sir Rico let Cryler, Allister and Katrina past the security check point and up to the castle to speak before the king. The rest of the party waits for their return.

Court was being held by The King's advisor, Chancellor Palpetine who was quick to hear the party's message before all of the courtiers and courtesans within the castle. Allister and Cryler recount the strange occurrences that led them to The land of sand and back to the capital city. It quickly becomes obvious that the chancellor cares not for the parties words, whether from disinterest or personal interest is unknown. The meeting was quickly turning toward to nefarious deeds of Allister's brother, the famous thief Serano, until the king's adopted son, Crados, came forward. Crados confirms the party's talk of purple peculiarity and interrupts what seemed to be the efforts of the chancellor to cloud the issue before the king.

The trio leave the king's court, thankful by the prince's interruption only to be led to members of the city guard looking to speak with the brother of the infamous Serano. Allister narrowly escapes capture and Katrina makes new friends. It isn't until Allister and the group return to the city proper that they are assaulted in a dark ally. MacDoogle is drugged and Allister vanishes.

There is no honor among thieves, only business.

Goblin War, Tomorrow's Fate

Prologue
Jericho was not what the party expected. Pleading their case in the king's court felt like speaking to a brick wall, a wall known as Chancellor Palpatine. Allister's return was wrought with far more danger than he anticipated. Avoiding the town guards succeeded in nothing but placing him in the clutches of one of the cities many guilds. Steel found getting revered Platemail, even just refitting some found in an ancient temple, is nearly impossible for someone not of royal blood. With so much happening the party returned to Ragna's Manor for safety and a chance to recoup...

Ragna's manservant, the Junon Percy, shows the party to the guest quarter and asks them to get cleaned and dressed for the evening meal. Some comply others find the slight magics of the wizard's home and the cleaning habits of a certain strange dwarven paladin too much to handle. Faylin asked after Allister and the likelihood of his safe return. By the time Percy returns half of the party is draped in purple and wearing fineries. With a derisive glance at the others he leads the assemblage to the manor's main dining hall. The expansive room is peopled with working servants and an elegant table capable of seating 50. The party spread out sitting in cliques and admiring the bounty of food.

Visitors begin to arrive including the beaten and bruised Allister Marden, returned by his captors after a short interrogation, The Magi Errol with his apprentice Umberwhyte, and the crown prince, Crados PenVolken, himself accompanied by his personal bodyguard the infamous Jonathan Path. Ragna Dragosani, wizard of legends, arrived last and the meal commenced. It was Allister, in a surly mood after his rough handling, that dispensed with the pleasantries and asked what the party really wanted to know. Why were they there?

Ragna counters with an invitation for the party to recount their story before two more members of The Hands of Fate. The tale of the party is told once more with interruptions from Ragna, Errol and the Prince to elaborate on important points. With the newer members of the party and the members of The Hands all abreast of the state of things Ragna finally answered Allister's question. The party have all been watched by the Black King of Agadeem, a witch of considerable prowess, long before they met each other and were caught up in the Orbs and the Junon Invasion. The Hands wish to stop The Eyes and their endeavors. The party could play a part in that goal. The party was asked join. Some accept, some did not.

The party would join the prince on his trip to the north to assist in the border skirmish between The King's Army and The Goblin Hordes of the north. Four weeks later the party finds themselves on the fronlines of a bloody battle. Fighting for their lives, fighting for the kingdom, the party finds the unknown shining brightly in the future.

The war continues...

Tides of War

The party fought alongside common soldiers against hordes of goblin and orcs. Two weeks. Two weeks on the frontlines gave the PCs a bit of combat experience and introduced them to new allies, like Axis the Drunken Monk. The fighting was guelling not becasue of the humanoid's combat prowess but because of their sheer numbers. The King's Army was charged with pushing the monsters back across their border and the generals devised a plan to do just that.

Forces were dispatched north through unused mountain passes under the cover of night in hopes of out flanking the enemy vanguard and in the ensuing battle it was expected that the creatures would be routed. Everything went as planned except that the Goblins were waiting. It was the early morning hours and the units of the sneak attack lead by Prince PenVolken himself moved quietly along the designated route when the hills were suddenly swarming with goblins. There was no time to ponder their sudden appeareance because the combat quickly turned fierce.

Though seperated, the party showed their skill and valor against wave after wave of Orcs and Goblins. Even out number the field appeared to be meant for the troops of Worcestershire. That was until the Giants were brought forward. The enemy had shown signs of having creatures that acted as living siege weapons but it wasn't until the monsters charged across the battlefield that their menace was truly felt. Jonathan Path was killed before any real blows were dropped upon the beast but his death acted as a rallying cry for the party. Axis tore one of the Giant's testacles free from its sack, while Katrina lodged a crossbow bolt in the creature's eye. Even thus wounded the golianth rained pain and destruction on the PCs. However, before a concentrated effort the Giant didn't stand a chance.

It was within the field hospital that Prince Crados informed the party of his true quest. He intended to leave the camp that very night and travel further into the winding mountain passes in search of something that he had to keep secret until Ragna's suspiscions could be confirmed. The party agreed to accompany him and set off under the cover of dark. It is there that The Minions of Hel were revealed to be in liege with the Goblin hordes. These mysterious beings , surrounded by a strange illusion making aura and wielding ghostly weapons that rendered victims teetering on the brink of madness, launched a suprises attack that would have been fatal if the party had not worked as a team. The Prince explained that The Minions were soldiers of The Eyes of Tomorrow and the whip behind the constant Goblin invasions from the north. The humanoid march south was merely a distraction to hide what The Minons were truly after which were a set of ruins.

Crados split the party in two. One group to travel inside and find out what lay inside another to defend the exit from the goblin and orcs that were bound to attack in an attempt to reclaim their hidden dig site...
