Our Story So Far
A group of adventurers hired by Father Nicky ventured into The Blackscale Swamp in search of Donnerschlag, Thor's second hammer. Through lizard men and cultist they manage to acquire the item and return it to The Temple of Thor within the city of Kharington. Unfortunately the relic proved to not only be the wrong hammer but cursed by the cult. The item possessed Father Nicky and led him south to an ancient prison from the advent of man known as The World Tree. There a blizzard of epic proportions pounded the kingdom’s central region. The party attempted to find the priest and return the item to the temple but found that he had inexplicably released enemies from man's past. Namely the frost giants and undead warned of in Norse theology. The party returned Father Nicky and the hammer but had more important matters to settle, The Tree needed to be closed and the hammer was one of three keys necessary to do so. The party battled through a multitude of monsters and a myriad of unfamiliar worlds but managed to return Father Nicky and the weapon to The Temple of Thor.
At the temple the party learned the magnitude of their troubles, by a council of high priest led by The High Priest of Thor. The weapon was not Donnerschlag as was believed, but the artifact Eisen-Schlussel forged alongside two other weapons to act as devices to open or close the dimensional doorways of The Tree. With the portions of The Tree locked by the Norse key open frost giants were free to walk the world of man once more, bringing with them a boundless winter. Also free were Fenrir, The Wolf, and Hel, Queen of the Undead. Unless they were put back within their prison they would bring about Ragnarok. Unfortunately The Tree could not be closed with only one key. The Tree was a bridge between many worlds and the decision to trap such creatures within was not one made lightly. It fell to the three dominant faiths at the time; Norse, Egyptian, and Christian. It would take The Sun Blade, and The Bolt of Saint Peter to seal the breach. The whereabouts of these weapons/keys were known by only one person, an ancient sage known as The Oracle of Ulon. So while a foreign hero known as The Paladin of Providence went south to slow down the emerging giants, the party was charged with finding The Oracle.
They tracked the oracle to an abandoned temple of Ra on the northern border of Quinlain but were hindered by assassins and a mercenary band known as The Lightning Lords. The party fought their way through the hired soldiers and had a confrontation with their leader, who proved to be a snakekin in disguise. Having saved the oracle she graciously, though enigmatically, shares the whereabouts of the second key. She promised to meet them back in Kharington with directions to the third key, but first they would need to acquire The Sun Blade and fast. The snakekin were hot on the trail, these creatures have hunted the keys for years and had had a hand in Father Nicky’s possession.
The first step was finding The Fortress in The Mist. There Magnus bested a Grimlock champion to gain an item that would get the party past the first guardian of the key. Their next step was to travel to a land blighted by an ancient grudge with the curse of undead. It was through such a place, The Doun Land the former seat of power of The Doun, that they fought through hordes of zombies to the old Doun Palace. The palace was guarded by a ghastly giant missing his eye, an eye that Magnus won through fair combat. Darius presented the eye and the guard allowed them passage. Inside they battle ghostly warriors doomed to relive their last day over and over. Thanks to the efforts of Torin and Jareth the party was able to find the palace treasury. Within was an extraplanar being that sought the keys to The Tree for itself. The oracle had managed to trap it in a barrier but the heroes needed to break its seal to get to The Sun Blade. They defeated the monster and fled the cursed lands.
All that was left was to return to Kharington and report back to the awaiting High Priest...
